GATHA AHUNAVAITI - YASNA 29

GATHA AHUNAVAITI

YASNA  29

This weeping world in grief and anguish cries
You did create me God – but not this plight of mine ?
In confusion and war.. I have been hurled…
In deep darkness amidst bright sunshine
All elements combine to pester me…
Envy, wrath, hate and oppression prevail
There’s sin and sorrow and repine
This miserable lot of mine I sadly bewail
I call out to you as my Saviour sole.

O Mazda, I see none but you who can
Save me from all these sufferings
Please ban all evil…..
So that I may once again be pure and clean
Enough torment and broils have I seen !
Mazda did heed her prayer…and sent a prophet wise
A better guide so far has never been
His voice was heard with rapture and surprise
He turned the earth into a paradise.

He taught mankind to work with an honest endeavour
To move forward with peaceful toil…
To honour truth always and fairly deal;
And cultivate the soil with constant care.
Foil all wicked onslaughts and schemes
From each impure passion abstain and suppress
From all selfish deeds and unjust fights.
Using this golden rule mankind should obtain
Full lasting bliss and heaven regain.

He was the pure and holy saint Zarthost
Beloved of Mazda and by his wisdom trained
The heavenly hosts of angels and archangels
Were ordained to guide him in his tasks.
And from whom all righteous knowledge he obtained
Equipped in full – his mission he began
And complete success and glory was his
As he pointed out the only way that can
Confer lasting peace and joy on man.

God approved of him as a fit and able guide
He is, said He, a leader gentle and kind
A good man unwaveringly on virtue’s side
With patience and strength well combined
In him a teacher all men will find
Zarathushtra bowed to Mazda’s will supreme
To Thee, he said I belong in body and mind
To work for Mazda my duty defined
Command whatever best to Thee may seem.

The future, past and present is all known to you
All deeds of men – good and evil too
And what they do and still intend to do
Thou will most fairly deal with everyone.
I’ll teach the world to shun all evil ways
To only worship and follow Thee alone
For there is only one Lord or Master
To Thee appeal with conscience free
With heart and soul Thy will to agree.

Hear me all men…I bring you God’s commands
Live honest lives and you’ll meet no harm
Free yourself from Satan’s wicked wiles
With swords of virtue yourselves arm
They’ll always prove a potent charm.
Be unscared of any danger or alarm
With zeal and faith do your daily toil
Devote yourself to cultivate the soil
You will never beg nor anyone despoil.

Ahura Mazda sends his Manthra words to you
These words he uttered for you everlastlingly
To that Eternal Word prove loyally true
Give it implicit faith..... it sure will heal
Old and festering wounds and make you feel
Hale and hearty, young and strong again,
And all noble duties fit to deal
Your former status you will obtain
For Mazda's love and confidence to gain.

Zarathushtra's words were cast on barren ground
To all  his teachings the world turned a deaf ear
Alas ! she cried a weak leader I have found
I'm steeped in sorrow and drowning in tears
Plunged in struggling seas of doubts and fears
A fighter bold, a leader strong I want
This guide appears too soft for all my wants.
I need a soldier not a scholar eloquent
To curb my enemies ...Truth be told.

To these complaints the prophet did not yield
And girded himself to do his destined task
O Mazda.....Thy help alone I need
No deadly arms or for soldiers do I ask
Thy pure light of wisdom is all I ask
I'll teach Thy Truths to men and make them clean
From Satan's tempting face I'll tear the mask
I'll make the world forever fresh and green
She'll see an age of calm for long unseen.
