YASNA - 45
All you, who from far and near have come to learn
The Sacred Word of Mazda's greatness and good,
Give me your attention, lend me your ears,
To what I reveal as true.
Deeply contemplate over what you hear,
If you rightly understand my message,
And close your mind to teachings and doctrines false
Of spurious faiths and superstitions gross
For to the human soul they act as deadly foes.
And first I'll tell you of the Spirits twain
The one that showers plenty and increase
The other causes all kinds of pain.
Of doubts and fears and of disease
From which there is no respite or release
In thought, perception, intelligence and deed
They are opposed. Their natures disagree ...
The first inspires you with a noble creed
The second tempts you to deceit and greed.
Almighty Mazda has shared with me
The best knowledge to guide man here below
The pure wisdom therein I now convey to you
From this all earthly happiness will flow.
No harm will touch you, no grief you'll know
But if his sovereign word you do not heed...
Each day your sorrows and woes will grow.
In need and poverty your lives you'll live
So free your souls from hell's grim jaws.
All knowing and wise, You are the lord of all
The father of Armaiti's noble mind
The first and best source from which arise
All virtuous actions, all feelings kind
That man to man in love and union bind.
God sees all and cannot be deceived
In his holy manthra we will always find
An unmatched and unconceivable store of priceless treasures,
If humbly sought and with true faith received.
All who with zeal obey God's high commands,
Perennial health and bliss shall surely attain
Your work will prosper in your hands
Your cherished rewards you shall always gain,
Whilst in his service every nerve you strain
You'll see his face, his gracious favour win
He'll smooth your rugged ways and make them plain.
Lead virtuous lives, unsoiled and free from sin
Your bodies clean, your hearts as pure within.
The Omnipotent's praises let us sing,
He's Truth and Wisdom, Grace and Matchless Might,
The Eternal King of all creation
Whose ministers are the Ameshaspands bright,
That in his presence stand in quenchless light
Judicious, just, benevolent and brave.
They guard the faithful and protect the right
They guide the wandering and the sinking save
Distressfully tossed on life's tumultuous wave.
Ahura Mazda's laws are unchangeably fixed
The righteous soul to paradise repairs
Wherein its lot is happiness unmixed
The evil soul is plunged in disquiteing cares,
Of burning in hell - the direst of tortures bears,
In spite of hoarded gold, the miser grieves,
The bounteous in God's grace and bounty shares.
His store is never less, he dreads no thieves....
The more he gives - the more from heaven receives.
Now offer upto him your happy songs
To the Omnipotent Lord who loveth all
To whom alone the Universe belongs
When you recall these words every single day
Good thought, good word, and good deed
They will save you from a fall, each lure, each snare.
You'll thrive here below with their potent charm
Immediately granting you unfailing joys
Do not be slow to gain God's grace divine
Just adhere to Truth, the rest he will bestow.
Discard all wicked deceivers to serve Him alone,
Whose ways are crooked and whose words are lies,
Beware of Ahriman .. who always deceives
And your downfall tries with pleasing wiles
Trust in Mazda who to your prayers replies
He is your guide and friend and will always be
If you stand true to this old teaching wise
That Truth's the best and highest good
And virtue is supreme blessing (beatitude).
